Guardiagrele "one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. " Pass through the gate of St. John flanked by the shops of ironworkers and blacksmiths and you will be immediately immersed in a network of ancient streets and guided by the aromas of the delicious products from the famous artisan bakeries, amidst the architecture in Maiella stone. See the magnificent Gothic facade of Santa Maria Maggiore and the 14th century church of San Francesco and its beautiful cloister. Several interesting museums are the Duomo, the costume museum and the archeological museum. OPENING HOURS: Summer period of August - from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm - from 4.30 pm to 7.00 pm. Other hours by appointment.

Ortona, "Village by the Sea." The Aragonese Castle, a 16th century fortress overlooking the sea and garrison of the city is the ideal spot from which to explore the historic center. 

Roccascalegna and Gessopalena, "ancient villages," within a radius of a few kilometers, connected by a scenic country lane, are two picturesque medieval villages - Roccascalegna (seen in the pic on this page) and the abandoned village of Gessopalena. Lanciano, "Village of Miracles," The 4 ancient districts of the city are worth a visit - not to be missed is the underground archaeological route, Piazza Plebiscito with the immense Cathedral of Madonna del Ponte, the remains of the walls of the medieval city, the Montanare Towers, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore and the sacred relic of the Eucharistic Miracle kept in the Church of St. Francis

Adventure Park - Parco Naturale della Majella.  The largest Adventure Park in Italy is located here in Guardiagrele. More than 250 games suspended in the trees with walkways, Tibetan bridges, tunnels and breathtaking views, all safely supervised and assisted by qualified personnel. Vertical Park - in nearby Pennapiedamonte the Vertical Park is a rock-climbing experience for levels between beginner and professional. Enjoy breathtaking sea views, cave passages and natural environments. Suggested ages - 13-adult.
